Thirty six players from Wollongong, Forster, Port Hacking, Albury, Canberra, Blue Mountains, Deniliquin, Jambaroo, Toronto, Young and Walla Wagga, as well as Wagga Wagga entered our 2014 Golf Croquet Carnival, which was held in pleasant weather conditions, although the afternoons did get warm.
This Carnival was played on three lawns for the first time, even though two lawns were slightly smaller, but in proportion. It was unfortunate that grass growth was delayed, however all is on track to have all three full lawns up and running later in the year.
Doubles was won by Peter Freer (Canberra) and Chris Pullen from Walla Walla. This was Chris’ very first competition, and she was extremely excited to have won this event, and to have partnered Peter! Runnerups were Belle Cahill, also from Walla Walla, and Dot Moroney from Jambaroo.
The handicap singles event consisted of 6 blocks followed by an 8 finalist knockout. The semi-finals were exciting games with Peter Freer (Canberra) and Bill Munns (Toronto) winning through to battle it out in the grand final.
Peter’s experience shone through and enjoyed his victory in front of the numerous spectators surrounding the lawn.
A huge thank you to Robyn Willis as tournament manager and Peter Freer as tournament referee.
