HISTORIC WIN FOR WAGGA WAGGA CROQUET CLUB
Croquet clubs from Wodonga Walla Walla, Wagga Wagga, Albury and Young competed for the 3WAY TROPHY on Sunday 6 May.
This is an annual competition played as a team event with four representatives from each club. Albury and Young clubs have been the winners since the inception of the competition in 2013 and again were favourites to take home the trophy.
The morning play saw each club competing eagerly for the trophy. By the time of the lunch break Albury Club had dropped out of contention and Young club were confident they would once again have the trophy in their club rooms. However a dark horse in the form of the Wagga Wagga club had a strong desire to get their hands on the coveted trophy.
Needing one further win after the lunch break the Wagga tam played Wodonga, who were determined not to go home without a win. At the end of play Wagga had gained another win. This resulted in Young and Wagga finishing the day with 5 wins each.
After the count back Wagga Wagga claimed the trophy for the first time.
